As you may have noticed, our website is called Monique. The origin of this name—what we like to call ourselves when we dream of becoming a singing duet one day—is simple: take the last syllable of Si'mon' and the last syllable of Angel'ique', and you get MONIQUE. I'm so glad we cleared that up. Now, let's get to the real story, shall we?

Simon and Angelique had their very first date in Chiswick Park, London, in 2016. Angelique was 25; Simon was 30. For some strange yet poetic reason, even though they barely knew each other, they decided to take a selfie. Something felt special—alas, as we all know, timing is everything. And it just wasn’t their time… yet.

Angelique spent the next five years building her career as an actress and writer, travelling as much as she could(even considering a move to Canada!), and spending quality time with her friends and family—something she cherishes immensely.

Simon spent the next five years moving between London and Brighton, reconnecting with old friends, working hard, traveling far and frequently, and playing drums and cricket. Some of his best times were with his long-term band, Fond of Rudy, where he recorded in great studios and toured far and wide, even reaching Toronto.

At the peak of COVID, through the magic of Instagram, Simon appeared in Angelique's messages and asked her out for coffee. Angelique was intrigued. They met in Haggerston Park, where Simon had prepared a picnic and brought some wine in his backpack. Angelique was impressed. They sat on a bench in the park—the only kind of date allowed during COVID—and the hours flew by. When they finally checked the time, it was 8 PM, and from that moment on, they knew something special was blossoming.

Their first trip away together—beautiful Cornwall. A memorable one. They took this photo, both feeling so happy and grateful to have found each other. St. Michael's Mount (behind them) will make an exciting reappearance later on...

Angelique and Simon moved in together into a beautiful one-bedroom flat in West London—their first big step. Angelique learned how to build furniture; Simon learned how to speak French. Angelique’s furniture-building days were short-lived. Simon’s French is excellent. He wins that one.

The next three years would be filled with lots of traveling—Santorini, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Scotland, Mallorca, Amsterdam, Wales, and a 7-stop tour of Italy, followed by their biggest trip yet: a tour of California, Vancouver, and Vancouver Island. There’s no slowing them down. They’re already eyeing their next adventure... care to guess where?

While Angelique was feeling quite blue about turning 34, Simon had a big birthday weekend planned for her. He surprised her by taking her to the airport, flying her back to Cornwall, and booking them into the nicest suite at the Godolphin Hotel, where they had stayed three years ago. And even though there was the biggest storm the UK had seen in a while, Simon found a small window of dry weather to make his plan happen. So, at 7:30 AM on her birthday, he managed to wake her up(!), bring her back to the rock where that first selfie was taken, and ask her the biggest question one could ask. She, of course, said yes, through her tears!
